Michael,
I believe you are correct. I tried turning the autoacquire feature off, and I
no longer see the spikes.
I did have to fiddle with the config file a bit. I found that if I added
global options to the end of the file, they didn't seem to work, but if I put
them before the example view definitions, they worked.
I tried running 3ddeskd directly with the -v flag to see if I could tell if it
recognized my options. I got a line like this:
DDDDDDDDDDDDDD demand loading 0
which I believe is telling me in a not entirely obvious way that the
autoacquire feature is disabled.
