The Humorous Side of Taxes
http://www.starkman.com/bestof/bestof.html
Today's site, from tax accountant Jay Starkman, offers what
little humor there may be in the cheerless world of U.S. income
taxes. Subscribers, watching the approach of the filing deadline
with gritted teeth, may find this pleasant little detour "helps
the medicine go down"
and may quit looking enviously at their northern neighbor who has
until the end of April to file.
"Can I Depreciate My Cat? ... the cat will be depreciable ... If
you sell the cat it will be treated as Section 1231 property, and
depreciation will
have to be recaptured, unless the disposition is in connection
with a divorce. To avoid recapture, it's best to contribute the
depreciated cat to
charity." - from the website
Although not updated recently, the humor section of this tax site
delivers a few quiet chuckles. Tidbits include a snappy little
verse entitled "The
Auditor's Report", an article on "How Not to Handle an IRS Audit"
and "Your Money or Your Life" -- wherein the IRS pronounces on
how a corporation should treat the ransom paid to the kidnappers
of its CEO for income tax purposes.
