sputnik: International Sputnik Day

The List dedicated to discuss the International Sputnik Day on October 4, 2007 the 50the anniversary of the Sputnik launch. This day is a self organized event by artists all over the world, a grass roots initiative, independendly of large institutions. The goal is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sputnik launch and to commemorate it as a major step towards many technologies which we use now, including internet, microchips, gps and of course space travel and satellites in general. The discussions on this list will not so much refer to technological details but reflect a lot the cultural dimension of techological changes.
