http://www.freelists.org/post/optimal/optimal-Digest-V5-104Hi,
we have a ton of experience with rodent imaging on the Spectralis. We have not
tried the StratusOCT in a long time.
As mentioned before, the key to get good rodent images is to keep the eye
moist. You don’t want to use goniosol, as that will totally degrade the image
quality. The best is saline. However, you have to apply every few minutes.
Alternatively, you can put a contact lens on it. There is a company in England
that makes mouse contact lenses (Cantor Nissel). I don’t know if they make
rat lenses. We are mostly doing mice, so I have not done OCT on a rat in a
while.
... [optimal] Re: Rodent OCTs (Dave Clark)
http://www.freelists.org/post/optimal/Rodent-OCTs,2
http://www.freelists.org/post/optimal/Rodent-OCTs,2With live rats, you have to image them quickly(because cataracts form very
quickly) and keep an IV of NS dripping over their eye to keep the cornea clear.
The cataracts seem to reverse over time.
Also, keep the rat warm as it will lessen the stress and slow the onset of
the cataract.
I helped one research facility devise a PVC tube that would hold the rat
still and it could be mounted in regular lab equipment. I wish I had taken pics
but I signed an NDA and was not allowed.
Good luck. Trial and error was what helped me the most.

Your whippersnapper may well be plano at infinity. However, a -5 is a classic
indicator of accommodation. Rather than focusing at infinity, he is trying to
bring the image closer and is focusing right in front of his nose. He has to
