Science and Scientist |
| Modern science has generally been directed toward investigating the material world, excluding consideration of the conscious scientist who is essential to the whole process, since, certainly, the entire scientific endeavor depends upon consciousness for its very existence. Complete scientific knowledge must, therefore, include both objective science and subjective consciousness.
In addition to other programs, Bhaktivedanta Institute's Science and Scientist Newsletter is humbly offered to inspire scientists and every thoughtful person to contribute their sincere efforts toward developing this grand synthesis. The result will be valuable not only for helping to better understand the "hard" problems of science such as the nature and origin of life and the cosmos, the mind-brain connection, artifical intelligence, etc. But the pressing problems of ethics in science, world peace, and interfaith dialog will also benefit from a more inclusive scientific worldview.
In our modern era science and religion are the predominating influences determining the fate of mankind. Promoting and developing a culture of harmony between such diverse fields has the potential to expand our conception of reality and advance human knowledge in the new millenium, in which it is said the study of life will be pre-eminent. Let us welcome the dawn of that new epoch for Man with great hope and expectation.

panel system for rapid development of programmable visual stimuli |
| This list will connect the community of panels system users. The project was developed by Michael Reiser as a graduate student at Caltech. The system is composed of embedded microcontrollers used in an LED-based display and a multi-microcontroller based control module. The system consists of hardware developed on two systems, and 4 different pieces of software (written in C and MATLAB). All code and circuit schematics are freely available online. The system has proven very succesful as a stimulation system for use in presenting controlled visual stimuli to insects in laboratory experiments. Currently there are about 7 other groups that have this system in place or are developing it now.
