I generally describe a good PM/Producer as:
A translator
A Football Coach
A Rodeo Clown
not sure if you can hire against that, though.

As we're hiring new producers and developing our training methodology, one
of our advisors has asked us to define what a good producer/project manager
looks like. What are the qualities and skills you all think define a good
producer?
I'll start:
Ability to work with many personalities without taking things personally.
Ability to find out what motivates each person on your team and help them
do their best work (help them produce, which is why I've always preferred
the term "producer" over project manager)
Ability to think on your feet and be decisive
Ability to juggle a lot of different tasks and still meet deadlines
Knowledge of what's good enough and what still needs work--perfectionism
can't be acheived and will doom your project
And then there's manage a budget and schedule, blah blah blah. But what
does it really mean to manage these things?
