I couldn't agree more. My work history has not been 'normal' in any way -
and I just had my FIRST job interview in life, this year, at 34 years old.
I'm also commuting now, for the first time in my life (10 min commute...
wow). I worked for the state of new york 3 blocks from my apartment for 9
years, was self employed for 5, and then the job I had last year I was
recruited for from cross country, and telecommuted from the east coast
communicating with technical lead and developers in Poland and managing my
content team in LA. That only lasted a year, largely because of terrible
mismanagement on the CA side and no VC coming in to allow us to launch what
we built. I am now in a situation, taken wholly against my better
judgement, that I would leave in a *heartbeat* - but for now its a job and
a paycheck and I deal with it and try to make a difference no matter how
futile it seems. I would hope, that if someone was to size me up, they
wouldn't judge me too harshly for leaving a sinking ship in CA or having
the self awareness to know i'm not in the right place right now, and just
biding time.
