hi ... really interesting thread on testing, promosing
and resources ... and corporate cultures that
encourage the bogeyman -- acct manager, sales, or
whoever -- to overpromise and underdeliver.
yes, yes, and yes.
her's my .02 after doing this online since the
beginning:
promising a client that you will deliver something
round, made of granite, with anti-gravity properties
-- by yesterday -- will get their attention when
closing the sale, but only if they are naive and
greedy ... and that's not who you want as clients.
and everyone who makes those deals finds out
eventually that overselling will fail to get repeat
business when it turns out that you can't actually
make good.
promise what you can deliver, not more ...get it in on
budget on time ... and make it work ... and clients
will stay with you for the long term. mine do.
my clients, partners and associates are all smart
enough and experienced enough to pass on the unfounded
promises, and to deal only in reality.
things just work out better that way.
