[webproducers] Re: client question

Most of the clients I have had have done the same thing. I end up spending
some extra time making decisions for them, and making modifications...and
even writing content. I am generally content with that (pun intended). It
will also always be the case that when any of us look at a potential final
product we'll think "Well, wait...maybe this would look better if I....."
And I don't want to be in the position of saying "NO...you agreed to this
and now you have to have it!"

I also find that giving suggestions is somewhat of a waste of time, unless
the client is quite technically savvy. Rather, I will take what I have and
put it together the way I think it should be, and then give the suggestion
that way. More times than not, these clients (mainly small/medium
businesses, btw) will tweak a few things but in general go for it.

I charge by the project based on estimated hours. I always end up working
well beyond what I should. With each experience, however, I try to plan for
the next one and build it into the initial understanding the project.

Subject: [webproducers] client question

How do you manage a client issue where the client was responsible for
content.

The content was not of great quality (copy and photos), it was only
moderately organized, and then the client started making requests for
specific functionality related to content that deviated from what was scoped
including formatting of content without any general or specific instructions
or guidelines (e.g. bold, bullet list, headline).

How do you manage this sort of thing? How much do you expect of your
clients when they supply the content/copy? How much coaching do you provide?

I usually tell my clients we will make comments and suggestions on their
content but usually wind up doing a bit more in the name of service.
