Lets see.. there are lots of ways to categorize these skills.
Some projects will require additional skills to the ones listed below that
we can call core learnable skills.
lets start off with a definition ,,
How do we define project success?
within the allocated time period
within the budgeted cost
at the proper performance or specification level
with acceptance by the customer/user
when you can use the customer's name as a reference
with minimum or mutually agreed upon scope changes
without disturbing the major work flow of the organization
without changing the corporate culture
Core learnable skills would thus contribute in some manner to project
success.
Activities of systems development/management that a project manaaer
would/should engage in are:
Strategic planning
Financial management
Resource allocation, scheduling, and integration ( people, material,
equipment, money)
Management functions ( planning, staffing, coordinating, controlling,
directing)
Providing program and technical direction
Learnable Skills would be:
Team building skills
Leadership skills
Conflict resolution skills
Technical skills
Planning skills
Organizational skills
Entrepreneurial skills (actual experience will probably be the only way to
learn this)
Administrative skills
Management support building skills
Resource allocation skills
So here is the start of a list...
I am not sure how to break out or if its necessary to break out the web
production skills..
I see the web component not as a skill per say but more of the successful
application of a user based approach to system design and development.
if that makes sense...
