[webproducers] Intranet Functionalities, Do's and Don'ts

Just to spark off a discussion topic:

What sort of functionality would you describe as ESSENTIAL for a Corporate
intranet, and what functionality would you consider to be a WASTE OF TIME?

I am being asked my opinions as the company I work for is starting to think
about implementing an Intranet (finally!). Much of what I can add is based
on what I can find out through surfing, and from Intranet systems at
previous jobs.

I wondered if any of you have anything to suggest, from your own personal
experience. What Functions have really wow-ed you, and which have been
totally unused?

Post back to the group, and I'll summarise at the end.

cheers

chris
