Well...CD-ROMs are useful when:
* you're delivering large amounts of video or audio data
* you don't have access to a fast internet connection
* you don't want to worry about network reliability and/or latency when
presenting content
* you want to leave self-running leave-behinds (URLs can be forgetten)
* you want to restrict/control the actions of users and/or content
presenters (this is easier to do with a CD-ROM app, which can give you
complete control over your environment and much more difficult to do
via the web)
CD-ROMs certainly aren't passe. They still have their uses.
