I can second that.

Drupal is OK with you stick to its' template structure, but it's not
as easy to create a flexible system that doesn't exactly follow suit.
I have worked on three projects where clients were migrating away from
drupal.

Personally, I like expression engine. It's like a multi-blog wordpress
engine (I find it easier to set up and deploy than WP), it can create
static pages, has a great build in forum, mailing list manager, user
rights and account administration, a gallery function and a wiki. It's
based on PHP and does have a plugin architecture and low level paypal
payment system, if you are looking for a payment system I wouldn't
recommend it (bakesale is great in combination though.) Note that all
of these features are part of the plugin architecture, so if you don't
need them you don't activate them and the application stays lean.

While there is a core version to try it out, the more advanced EE
isn't free, it's $99 for a personal license and
$249 for business. Not affiliated with the firm, just a fan of the
software: http://expressionengine.com/
