[webproducers] Re: Web Development Shops and Interactive Agency rates?

Well, I'll add my 2cents by asking a question.
My background/experience is in a number of areas, from marketing to writing
to editing to project management to information architecture. I'm very very
good at some things and moderately good at other things. In this
environment, I'd like to be able to present myself to clients as
multi-talented. ("I can't write your code or create your graphics files,
but I can write content as well as do your site navigation..."). My
question for the freelancers on this list is this: What billing rate do you
charge for your services? Does it vary based on what you do, and if so, how
do you do the breakdown? Or do you just say "hey, my time is worth $X per
hour, regardless of what I'm doing for you." And how have clients responded
to your approach?

Sad to say no one has posted anything!
Hey, I'd be willing to settle for "I hear the going rate is between X and
Y..."
I'd post this on the WWWAC list but I'd get a million e-mails bitching
about:
A. That I was breaking the law by starting an industry conspiracy to limit
competition.
B. "I hear in _________ things are so bad they are working for food."
C. "I'm a mad genius so my hourly rate is $1000."
I wish I did have some answers...
: )
