Hello Birders
This was the 68th year that the Hopewell Christmas Bird Count has been held.
We had warm, sunny skies with temperatures reaching 70 degrees F. A total of
41 birders participated in the count. Our preliminary species count total is
109 species.
Noteworthy birds on this count included Ross' Geese (4), Cackling Goose (2),
Canvasback, American Bittern, House Wren (2), Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher,
Baltimore Oriole (2), Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Green Heron, Lapland Longspur,
Brown-headed Nuthatch, and Merlin.
Notably absent were Bobwhite, and in very low numbers (less than 10)
Yellow-rumped Warbler.
