Seems to me that the weather was not good for it. There was a stable air
mass over us, and birds were not moving. It was too comfortable staying in
one place. This coming weekend would have been a lot better. From highs in
the mid 90s, temperatures are predicted to fall to the mid 60s with the
passage of a front. It seems to me that there will be lots of birds this
weekend due to southward migration with the front.

Subject: [va-richmond-general] Eastern Shore Birding and Wildlife Festival
John and I are just back from the 15th Eastern Shore Birding and Wildlife
Festival - headquartered in Cape Charles this year for the first time (lots
of rain for the last 2 years forced the move to an "indoor headquarters and
display area" in the Cape Charles Volunteer Fire Company Complex.
Highlights and low lights: an Eared Grebe, Western Kingbird and 2 sightings
of an immature Golden Eagle made folks excited - the continued poor weather
patterns resulted in very low total birds banded at the Kiptopeke banding
station this weekend (2 bird on Friday and 9 on Saturday).
But again this year the general enthusiasm around the event and the
fantastic Eastern Shore habitats resulted in happy participants and
volunteers!
