[va-richmond-general] October RAS Program

The October program for RAS was to have been presented by Aimee Weldon, and
would have been an update of the IBA program. Due to Aimee's acceptance of
another job a couple of weeks ago, she won't be able to make that presentation.
Instead, Linda & I have agreed to substitute using two programs I have been
working on, which will total no more than 45 minutes. Below is a description of
the program for October 20th:

Program for October 18: Al Warfield, with help from Linda, will present two
programs using some new software with which he has been experimenting. The
first, 18 minutes long, will be titled "Texas Birding 2007", and will describe
a trip Linda & Al took along the Texas coast, up the lower Rio Grande Valley,
and to Big Bend National Park and the Davis Mountains. The second presentation,
which is 12 minutes long, will be "Spring in Highland County". Here, Al & Linda
will show the results of two trips to Margaret & Wayne O'Bryan's property in
May, 2007, presented as if it were one day.

In both of the presentations, there is a pleasant background soundtrack, and
birdcalls are featured when the birds are portrayed. The effect is similar to a
video, but much better, since high resolution images are shown instead of
multiple low resolution images. The pictures shown will include not just the
birds, but the beauty of the surrounding landscape and scenery. The timing is
preset, so you won't have to listen to any long verbiage, but will be able to
ask questions at the end. We hope you can come to the meeting. We presented the
Highland County program to the Rockingham bird club last week and the response
was overwhelmingly positive. However, we are very receptive to constructive
criticism.

See the RAS website or the Thrasher for details on the pre-meeting dinner, etc.

Thanks,

Al Warfield
