At 6:20 PM today we had one in our Basswood tree, a new yard bird for us.
According to Virginia's Birdlife the extreme Fall date for the Piedmont is 27
Sept, but the Coastal Plain date is 21 Oct. We are about a mile west of I-95.
The light was coming from the west and the bird was facing that way, so the
belly was well lit but the back was in shadow. The slightly orange-yellow
belly, white eye ring with dark eye, and faint wing bars were seen clearly,
although Sibley's shows more distinct wing bars. The low light and possible
worn plumage may have contributed to this observation. We could find no other
possibility for this sighting.

Also, we saw about 12 Chimney Swifts working the sky over our house yesterday,
so they were still here then.
