Hey all...Rockwood was very beeyootiful, if not downright enchanting...the 
leaves were golden and red and jagged patterns of both.  The only setback to 
the leaves was that every time I spied the movement of a leaf twirling down, I 
would swing my binocs around thinking it was a birdie!  Anyhoo, here's my 
lovely little list:
 
Saturday 10-30-04---overcast, damp, mid-sixties at 7:45 am...
white-throated sparrow(such a lovely, mournful, yet somehow cheerful song)
carolina wren
american black duck(these babies almost made me pee in my pants as I scared 
them from the water's surface[unintentionally, of course])
american goldfinch
pileated woodpecker
hairy woodpecker
northern flicker
a plethora of ruby-crowned kinglets
mallard
(now this is interesting, and isn't it unusual?)a squadron of four great blue 
herons gliding around at the end of the boardwalk together.  At several points 
during the morning, I saw them together, circling and roosting high in the 
trees well away from the water...weird

american robin
american crow
turkey vulture 
eastern bluebird
canada goose
downy woodpecker
pair of hermit thrushes(***highlight for me!!)

The boardwalk was chained off because the boards themselves were all churned up 
and twisted from Isabel?  but I went back there anyway..shhhhhh
