I'm not sure it was a White-throated Sparrow. Whatever it was wasn't singing. I
didn't get a good look.

  Michael,
Are your white-throated sparrows singing? That's an easy song to teach your
kids. Not to mention a beautiful one.

  regards,
  Linda

  Hey, all-
With the change in the weather, the birding around the school is getting
interesting. There is a tower nearby where Turkey Vultures roost, so I see
them daily, either alone or in small kettles. Might have seen some Black
Vultures the other day. Lots of American Crows around and there are Canada
Geese that fly by a few mornings a week as I get in. The other day, the kids
and I got to see three Eastern Bluebirds - at least two males, one chasing a
butterfly I think - on the playground. We got great looks because no one
  else was out there yet.
There were also about a dozen or so Dark-eyed Juncos around my trailer
today, plus either a Carolina Wren or a White-throated Sparrow. We also saw
a young snake today! (I'm guessing it was young. It was only about a foot
long. It didn't have the fat head or yellow tail, so I know it wasn't a
Copperhead. I suppose it could have been a young Corn Snake, but it seemed a
little drab for that - thoughts?) Should be an interesting season!
