8 birders visited Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens this morning. 25 species of
birds were seen. The higlight was a Pie Billed Grebe seen in the middle of the
Irrigation Pond. Because the group stayed behind the trees on the shoreline ,
the bird did not get disturbed from us being 800 feet away. The Belted
Kingfisher pair ,usually only heard but not seen , showed themselves several
times as did an Eastern Towhee. A late migrating Spotted Sandpiper (1) specimen
was seen on the mudflats of the drought impacted lake behind Bloomendal House.
Sincerely,
Tyler Turpin
