On Saturday, August 28th, a couple brought a photograph of a hawk into the Wild
Birds Unlimited store in Glen Allen, Va. The large hawk is seen perched on the
deck railing near the squirrel feeder. A broad white stripe above the eye
reveals an immature Northern Goshawk. The homeowner was asked to contact the
employee if the bird appeared Saturday evening.
On Sunday evening and Monday morning, an attempt was made to locate the hawk by
Jim Strawn and myself. The hawk has been seen perched on the high utility
towers that run between Rudolph and Dancer Roads in western Henrico County.
The photograph will be submitted to VARCOM with the homeowner?s permission. The
homeowner was reluctant to have his address posted.
