[va-richmond-general] Tuft-less Titmice and Fledgling Woodpeckers

Most of the backyard birds of late require a second look to confirm just
what they are. The Cardinals are in many shades of red and brown-most
lacking their crest and some void of all "facial" feathers. The Titmice also
are flitting about with new hairdos.
The Red-Bellied Woodpecker family are bringing a new round of fledglings to
the suet feeder as of this week. The crying youngsters appear very tentative
and wait high in the Oak for Mom or Dad to pack their beaks with a morsel or
two. I've never had young woodpeckers this late in the season.
The only birds in my yard that look normal these days are the Chickadees and
Hummingbirds.
