Does anyone have any information on the finch eye disease? I know I've heard
about this but can't remember exactly what I heard. This inquiry came to the
RAS website.

Subject: finch eye problems
Hello!
I'm a very amateur birder here in Richmond, VA with a question about the purple
finches visiting my feeders. Some of them have a very nasty problem with one or
both eyes: they start out just looking a little unkempt and irritated, then
progress to protruding and blinded. I thought I heard something about a
parasite or disease but can't recall the details. I'm not even positive that
they're purple finches; they could be house finches. By the way, what is the
definitive way to tell the difference?
Thank you for any information you may have to offer.
