Took some relatives to Back Bay NWR in Sandbridge yesterday (Saturday) as
part of trip to Hampton Roads area. Sanderlings and Dunlin were present in
small groups.
There was an immature loon on the ocean side visible from the boardwalk trail
leading from the visitor's center to the ocean. there were some migrant adult
and immutarues there last month when i was on the Birds and Blossoms Festival
trip. I spoke to the ranger and she agrred that is was a immature staying
over possibly for the summer . some non breeding birds stay in wintering
grounds for a year. i could not tell which species it was . ranger did not know
either.
Sincerely,
Tyler Turpin
