How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
(none - woodchuck means wuchak - Algonquian for marmota monax.)
How much sand would a sandpiper pipe, if a sandpiper could pipe sand? (Maybe
he could pipe it through his beak, but I am not certain where that name came
from).

Your sandpiper was most likely a spotted. Common is a Eurasian species and
I believe the only US records are from western Alaska. It is very difficult
to tell them apart unless they are in breeding plumage.
Was your hedgehog a groundhog in a hedge?
