An early morning walk in the Wetlands behind our house today was great. Lots of
birds and blooming marsh flowers. A female Wood duck left a tree cavity and a
Pileated woodpecker stuck her head out of another snag. Bird boxes we installed
on Earth Day are already housing Tree swallows and Bluebirds.
A few highlights:
Great Blue Heron
Green Heron
Killdeer
Solitary Sandpiper
Osprey
Red-shouldered Hawk
Turkey Vulture
Eastern Kingbird
Eastern Bluebird
Field Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
Towhee
Great Crested Flycatcher
Cedar Waxwings (> 30)
Veery
Wood duck
Canada Goose and brood
Blackpoll
Prairie Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Yellow warbler
Blue-grey Gnatcatcher
Tree swallow
...and many year round residents.
