[va-richmond-general] killdeer at Lewis Ginter

Last night I attended the first Thurs. night concert of the season at Lewis=
Ginter Botanical Gardens. During the break, as people swarmed to the rest=
rooms in the library building, I noticed the cry of a killdeer at the back =
of the crowd. Sure enough, she was there in the grass feigning her injury.=
Some curious folks stopped to look and moved on. It seems there was no h=
arm done, but I felt so bad for her in a panic for 3 hours as hundreds of p=
eople milled about near her nest. If anyone is in contact with administrat=
ors/caretakers at the Gardens, maybe you could ask them to look for the nes=
t and perhaps rope off the area for the next concert. The concerts now tak=
e place on the lawn between the conservatory and the path by the lake. The=
killdeer was near the flower beds that are not yet filled on the far right=
as you would walk up the path from the visitor center to the conservatory.=
There are double flowering tulips in that bed if that helps them at all, =
but the nest could be anywhere in the beds around that grassy area.
Thanks,
Mary Davis
