[va-richmond-general] reporting recovery of banded birds

It is important that information on all banded birds found dead be reported
to the federal bird banding laboratory. The primary information they want
is species (if known, but not necessary, as it is in their records), band
number, location, date, cause of death if known, name and address so they
can send you a certificate of appreciation. This information can be
reported by a toll-free call to 1-800-327-BAND or via the web at
http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/bblretrv/webrec.cfm. In the greater Richmond
area (including a couple of county radius), I would be grateful if you could
drop me an email with that info as well, since most of the banding in this
area is done by me, or, in the case of prothonotary warblers, by other
facultuy members or graduate students that I am working with. Also, I would
be happy to assist you with identifcation and reporting of such banded birds
if you email me.
Similarly, the sighting of a live banded bird staying around at a particular
location is important as well. If you email me on any such sighting I will
respond quickly and see if we can evaluate the possibility of my recapturing
the bird.
Thanks very much.
Bob Reilly
