I made a quick trip to Richmond to attend a family funeral and
stayed, as always, with my mother out near Tuckahoe Creek just inside
the county line. She had, in addition to the regulars, a male indigo
bunting visiting her feeders. This morning I heard a wood thrush
singing, probably in the woods along the creek, and, much to my
surprise, I heard, very clearly, a fish crow.
I hear fish crows regularly 9 to 10 months a year here in
Fayetteville, so I'm thoroughly familiar with their calls. However,
this was my first one in the Richmond area. How common are they
along the James and its tributaries in the Greater Richmond area?
