7 birders joined the trip leader for the April 26 trip to Lewis Ginter
Botanical Gardens. 26 species were seen or heard.Higlights were a tolerant of
people Song Sparrow that perch and sang for several minutes about 8 feet from
the group,2 sightings of the Green Heron pair in flight, and a perching
Eastern Kingbird.Green Herons are on several organiations list of birds of
concern.
Yesterday my grandmother who lives just a bit west of Patterson and Horsepen
reported her first ever yardbird sighting of a Rosebreasted Grosebeak in 56
years of living at her house.Spcimen was a male no female was seen It came to
her bird feeder. Her house has a wooded creek and floodplain area right across
the street. I had a male Rosebreasted Grosebeak spend about 10 minutes
perching in my bushes and visiting my birdfeeder this morning at my townhouse
just west of I-64 and Parham . My townhouse backs up to a heavily wooded creek
and floodplain area about 3/4 of a mile wide and 3 miles long. Grosebeak
migration is well underway.
Sincerely,
Tyler Turpin
