SENT BY THE DIRECTION OF ADRIANNE D. MOORE, CHIEF, ENVIRONMENT, SAFETY,
AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH OFFICE
APRIL IS VIRGINIA ELECTRONICS RECYCLING MONTH
For all those electronic devices you have around the house that you are
considering throwing away, why not show some environmental stewardship
and recycle those items.
Used and obsolete electronics, such as computers, printers, mobile
phones, and fax machines, are part of an increasing and complex waste
stream that poses challenging environmental management problems for
everyone. Electronic products contain materials that should not be
treated as common waste. Most, if not all of the materials are
recyclable and have reuse value, such as metals and plastics. There are
also relatively small quantities of some specific materials that may be
potentially hazardous, particularly if they are not disposed of
properly, such as lead, mercury and cadmium.
The statewide electronics recycling campaign is sponsored by the
Virginia Recycling Association (VRA) and Computer Recycling Initiative
<http://www.computerecycle.org> to spread awareness of the hazards
discarded electronics pose to the environment and highlight Virginia
recycling opportunities. The Governor of Virginia has recognized April
as Virginia Electronics Recycling Month. View the resolution text

Some events are restricted to residents of the sponsoring locality. Some
accept business waste. Fees may be charged for particular items to
address costs associated with handling those items. Please refer to

specifics.
