Our visitor is still here today - has been most of the day, and was joined
yesterday and today by another, both males. They strongly prefer safflower to
sunflower seed, feed only at tube feeders, and one of them almost never gets
any seed - the other chases it away, as well as the House Finches and other
birds. We have observed both of them at one time trying to feed on the one
feeder at the same time.
The distance from the perch to the hole is rather short on this feeder, and the
bird has to use its wings for balance while grabbing a seed, briefly exposing
the red underside of the wings. They look like red and white azaleas with a
black head. I can't wait to get my film back!
