VA-birders....
Our deepest gratitude to the Ann Brooks, Caroline Coe, and all of the
field trip leaders for the outings held at the VSO Annual Meeting this
weekend.
I do not have the field trip lists, however I do want to mention some of
the highlight bird species. A more complete list may be sent later....
Highlights:
ANHINGA circling overhead at Curles Neck Farm. (Spotted by Joanna Taylor
and seen by about 20)
Marsh Wren -- Dogham Plantation (Spotted by Greg Moser)
(3) Common Loons -- flyover at Dogham Plantation (Spotted by Allen
Schreck)
Excellent list of warblers, including Canada, Kentucky, N. Parula,
Blue-winged, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Yellow-throated,
Prairie, Pine, Yellow, Hooded, Ovenbird, L. Waterthrush, N. Waterthrush,
Common Yellowthroat, Chat, Redstart....
and wonderful closeup looks at numerous Prothonotary Warblers at Henricus
Park and other locations.
Yellow-throated, Red-eyed, White-eyed, and Blue-headed Vireos
Summer and Scarlet Tanagers
Bobolinks (Found by Fenton Day)
Orchard and Baltimore Orioles
All of the eastern swallows, including Cliff.
E. Wood-pewee
Barn Owl ( Bob Coles had a close encounter of the white kind)
There are many other highlights that other participants can fill in. The
complete list is well over 140 species. It was a great weekend!
