[va-richmond-general] Tis the Season

It must be Spring---so much singing and pairing off---grab the food before the
grackles get it---and the male cardinal feeding his lady love, he especially
likes to feed her crumbled suet cake (John's recipe only, no store bought
stuff). The red breasted nuthatches have become so tame that they come to the
open feeder when I'm only a couple yards away---and this is their first year
here. The yellow bellied sapsuckers come to the open feeder, too, and scrape
their bills sideways across the surface to gather all the crumbled suet quickly
before the red bellied woodpeckers come and bump them off. The male cardinal's
lovely song is almost drowned out by the chattering-twittering finches. A pair
of mallards had sole occupancy of the lake this afternoon, cruising where the
otters were playing only a couple weeks ago---wish they would come back.
Then when it was dark and quiet, we watched one of the Life of Birds DVDs!
Can't get too much of a good thing, right?
