[va-richmond-general] Henricus today
- From: Al Warfield <warfield101@xxxxxxxxxxx>
- To: Audubon Listserve <va-richmond-general@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Our visit began around 8:30, overlapping only slightly with Paul's. We saw a
few Yellow-throated Warblers too, but also several Pine Warblers along the 4
mile trail, especially near the fly-ash pond. They were mostly either on the
ground or in low branches, and very close-we saw them singing.
We also saw Fish Crows and American Crows at the same time, confirmed by voice.
The American Crows were displaying in the treetops. There were plenty of Juncos
still, and a few White-troated Sparrows. There were lots of Song Sparrows - I
think they must have been migrating for there to be that many I would guess
there were several hundred. Heard one Field Sparrow. Saw one Sharp-shinned
Hawk.
Tree Swallows are there in good numbers, but the only ducks we saw were
Ring-necks. There were some bluebirds entering the new boxes along the trail.
The water level is higher than we had ever seen it. It must be more than the
tide-the James flow appears to be contributing. The low-lying area around the
first bench was under water. The number of Great Blue Heron nests is much
smaller than a couple of years ago, maybe 15 or less compared with over 40. The
fishermen appeared to catching mostly catfish.
