[va-richmond-general] James River Winter Count

A spectacular turn-out for our annual James River Winter Count today. 31
birders saw a total of 59 species which averages about 1.9032 birds per birder.
Not too bad considering we birded in springtime conditions as evidenced but
Mary's hillside of blooming daffodils and an occasional mosquito to swat. No
surprises or rarities and many "misses." Bald eagles were seen, the Great
Horned Owl is at the Carillon and many Buffleheads surfed the Class V rapids
near Hollywood. A Peregrine soared over the Flood Wall hopefully not picking
off the Lesser Black Back Gull at Ancarrow's.
Great to have a lot of new faces join the group. It's a shame we didn't have
anything to eat.
Thanks again to Mary and Larry for letting us wrap up the day in their
wonderful home. And thanks to all of you who turned out.
Looking forward to more good times in 2007.

p.s. Rain Crow-sorry I missed your call last night-didn't want to call at 5:30
this morning.
