Can anyone identify the bird in this photograph?

> This photograph was taken of what I belieive is a hawk in by back yard.  I
tried to identify it using my bird book entitled "The Encyclopedia Of North
American Birds".  The closest hawk I could find based on the text
description was the Cooper's Hawk.  However, reviewing many pictures, it
does not seem to match very well.  According to many internet sites, the
Cooper's Hawk is categorized as endangered.  Can you verify the
identification of this beautiful hawk.
