[va-richmond-general] Re: Unusual first bird of the year...

Well, it wasn't my first unusual siting for 2005 but it was my last of 2004.
I was driving home Thursday and spotted what I think was a Barred Owl
perched in a small tree right beside the road. He seemed a little small for
a Barred but I haven't found a picture of any other owl that it could be,
other than a Short Earred Owl. It was around 4pm and he must of been setting
up for his dawn hunting. I had my camera with me but he was gone by the time
I turned around and went back. I have seen him in almost the same spot about
a year ago. I got a picture of him then but didn't have the camera set up
properly and the pictures aren't very good at all. Better luck next time.
Johnny
