[va-richmond-general] Re: Coffee for birders ... and non-birders

Mary has a great point. Letters or personal requests to the managers
(especially in writing, for the big stores) are the keys to getting
shade-grown coffee in all our stores.
In the case of Rostovs, which is where I buy all my coffee because I want it
roasted fresh by the most experienced coffee roaster in the Richmond Metro
area (that would be Michael James), Tammy Rostov has consistently told me
there isn't enough demand for her to stock shade-grown coffee all the time,
but she would be delighted to stock it if the demand was there.
If you don't care about having your coffee small-batch fresh-roasted, you'll
have better luck with the chains or larger stores like Ukrops or Ellwood
Thompsons or Good Foods, where they can order alreaady-roasted coffee from
their distributors. Wherever you shop, it's a great thing to do "for the
birds".

PS: I submitted this idea to the newsletter some months ago when we were all
asked for what we could do for the birds on a personal basis, but it wasn't
printed. I'm really happy to see someone else take it up.....I've been
pushing this idea for years.
