[va-bird] Belted Kingfisher at Lake Cook

I saw a BELTED KINGFISHER at Lake Cook this afternoon and thought I heard a
second.

There were also ten HOODED MERGANSERS, fifteen MALLARDS, three NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRDS, a slew of HOUSE SPARROWS and one WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, a
RING-BILLED GULL and a GREAT BLUE HERON.

Cameron Run had a few hundred RING-BILLED GULLS and forty, or so, AMERICAN
CROWS squabbling with the gulls. Among all this racket and activity, there
was a solitary GREAT BLUE HERON standing stock still smack in the middle of
a fairly large gravel island. I don't know if it was sleeping or just
waiting for the interlopers to go away, but it sure couldn't fish from where
it was.

Lake Cook is located next to Cameron Run Regional Park just off Eisenhower
Avenue in Alexandria.
