FreeLists / va-bird / [va-bird] Short-eared Owls, Rectortown, Fauquier County 9 December 2006

Hola,
 
I stopped by the previously-described spot in northern Fauquier County Saturday 
evening to see what the present Short-eared Owl count was, arriving at about 
four-fifteen PM.  A few other birders showed up as well, including Martha 
Johnson, Steve Johnson, Joan Boudreau, and the dreaded Bob Abrams.   At least 
four Short-eareds showed up as well.  Each time I vist it seems the number 
doubles.  We could get a hefty total come February if that trend continues.  
 
Tonight's display wasn't particularly notable, as they stayed fairly distant.  
They did perch some, and barked a little, so it wasn't terribly disappointing.  
 
A Barred Owl decided to sing as well.  A few Hooded Mergansers flew over.
