    On a cloudy, cool December 12, ten birders met at Huntley Meadows for the 
weekly 7:00 am bird walk led by John and Barbara Perry. The boardwalk was icy 
but manageable and the snow-covered woods beautiful.
     The highlight of the morning was a flock of a dozen AMERICAN PIPITS 
happily foraging on the ice very close to the boardwalk.
     The total observations:
     Canada Goose 300
     American Black Duck 2
     Mallard  43
     Red-Shouldered Hawk 1
     Ring-Billed Gull 62
     Mourning Dove 5
     Downey Woodpecker 1
     Red-Bellied Woodpecker 3
     Northern Flicker 4
     Eastern Phoebe 2
     American Crow 12
     Carolina Chickadee 5
     Tufted Titmouse 4
     White-Breasted Nuthatch 1
     Carolina Wren 2
     Golden-Crowned Kinglet 2
     Eastern Bluebird 1
     Northern Mockingbird 1
     American Pipit 12
     Northern Cardinal 5
     Song Sparrow 27
     Swamp Sparrow 6
     White-Throated Sparrow 20
     Dark-Eyed Junco 3
     Red-Winged Blackbird  250
     House Finch 2
     American Goldfinch 14

Observers included:  John and Barbara Perry, Stuart and Pam Davis, 
Barry Pearson, Arlene Richman, Ken Larsen, Mike Ready, Dana White

After the walk the group adjourned to Arlene's home for a delicious 
brunch for which we all offer our thanks.
