[va-bird] Allen's Hummingbird at Cape Charles
- From: Phoebetria@xxxxxxx

Mary Gustafson and Bruce Peterjohn captured, banded, measured, and
photographed the immature male Allen's Hummingbird this morning at Cape
Charles. The
identification was straightforward based on the fully green back, shape of R2
(lacking emargination at tip), width of R5 (2.06 and less), and also on the
very worn primaries and underparts, consistent with other immature Allen's
banded
in the East (2 in New Jersey, 2 in Delaware, 1 in North Carolina). This is
Virginia's second Allen's; the first was banded in Bristol in December 1997.
All are welcome to view the bird in the side garden from the front yard or
the front porch (9 Randolph Ave., Cape Charles - look for the oystercatcher
sign).
