Mark Adams and Gordy Adamski joined me on a one-day trip to Northampton
County. It was fun-filled day with great birding. Along the way we ran
into many birding friends.
Few of the highlights:
Cave Swallow - first spotted large flock of at least 25-30 actively feeling
over the open fields on Rt. 600 at Latimer Siding Road approximately 10:45
a.m.
Black-chinned Hummingbird - Ned and Steve's Sterling House B& B in Cape
Henry- In one week's time I noted changes in the plumage, especially around
the throat. Great views in sunlight.
Harlequin Duck - CBBT, Island #4 - both male and female on rocks early morning
Snow Bunting - CBBT. Island #4 - a single, stunning winter plumaged in late
afternoon (Others reported two in the morning.)
Red-throated Loon - Chesapeake Bay from Rt. 13 overlook at north end of
Fisherman's Island - only one for the day
White-winged Scoter - CBBT, Island 3 - only one for the day, a male
Peregrine Falcon - stunning close-up as it slowly cruised over Island 4 and
circled back at eye level. It even perched on rail a very short distance
from us.
