[va-bird] Cave Swallows/Friday/Eastern Shore

Bob Anderson found 25 Cave Swallows in the fields just north of Latimer
Siding Road (a short road that runs east of Rte 13 and dead-ends at Rte 600,
the
Seaside Road, just north of the refuge) late yesterday afternoon - this is the
same spot where up to 35 had been the week before, and where Karen Kearney had
two dozen on Thursday. Bob also found 6 Cave Swallows from the Winslow bunker
observation platform yesterday afternoon. These birds wander widely in
search of food, but there are no reports for the Eastern Shore north of Cape
Charles. They roost in cave-like structures in the evening (in large
hotel/condo
eaves at Cape May), and so the bunker might be a logical place to look for
Caves
going to roost just before dusk.
