[va-bird] Bridgewater Ross's Geese - Still There

At 10:30 this morning, BJ Westervelt and I found the 3 ROSS'S GEESE at the same
spot where Bev and Jen found them Monday. They were
quite skittish, but we were able to take pictures of them while they fed on the
lawn that is adjacent to the pond. Earlier
descriptions seemed to hold true - they appear to be a family of 2 adults with
1 youngster.

The pond is at the rear of the White Birch Estates Assisted Living Center. This
is .6 mile West of Hwy 11 on Oakwood Lane (also see
previous posts). We did not ask permission, but although we didn't encounter
anyone there, I would advise asking or at least
notifying the staff if you go.

After that treat, we went on to Leonard's Pond where we found 4 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, as well as 3 N. Shovellers, and a Killdeer that
responded to a nearby Red-tailed Hawk by performing its "broken wing" act.

Along Bell's Lane north of Staunton, we found a single White-fronted/Canada
goose hybrid in a field with lots of Canada Geese.
