VA BIRDers,
Just a quick note on a few birds that Sherman Suter, Linda Millington and
myself observed in Prince William and Fauquier Cos. this morning.
A stop on Fleetwood Rd south of Aden Rd in Prince William Co. produced 10
adult male Brewer's Blackbirds in a small tree across from the old church
parking lot in the dairy cow farm field. Some other species of general
interest noted at this location were 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 1 Am. Kestrel, 265
Ring-billed Gulls, 15 Herring Gulls, 35 Horned Lark, 400 E. Startlings, 2 Am.
Pipits, 4 White-crowned Sparrows, 1 Lapland Longspur, 40 Red-winged
Blackbirds, 2 E. Meadowlarks, 2 Common Grackles, and 7 Brown-headed Cowbirds.
A visit to the Remington area on Grassdale Rd in Fauquier Co. netted the
following species of general interest: 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 2 Am. Kestrels,
110 Horned Lark, 1 Loggerhead Shrike (on VA 668, the next road south of
Grassdale, about a 1/2 mile east of VA 651), 2 Am. Pipits (also on VA 668;
literally), 1 White-crowned Sparrow, 14 Lapland Longspurs, 5 E. Meadowlarks,
and 30 Brown-headed Cowbirds.
