Greetings,
Late this morning, I stopped at one of my favorite farms in search of a
possible Brewer's Blackbird or other goodies. Foraging amongst the Rock Doves
and cows were FIFTEEN Brewer's..11 males and 4 females. Awesome sight for me!
They cooperated very nicely by flushing only a few times, allowing me to get
wonderful looks. Also out in the pasture were 52 HORNED LARKS...the most I've
ever seen in this county. At first I thought there were 10, but they flushed
and the numbers jumped! This pasture has been a reliable spot for horned
larks. To get to this dairy farm (DeLorme pg.76 C-1), take Fleetwood Drive
(Rt. 611) south from where it intersects with Aden Rd. (Rt. 646) for about
3/4 of a mile and the farm is on the right. I park in the old Asbury Church
driveway adjacent to the farm.
As long as we're talking numbers, I found 21 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS foraging
together, at the same time, along Parkgate Drive (Rt. 653), several miles
from the dairy farm. Bet I'll never see that again!
