[va-bird] Re: Ross' Goose in Rockingham County

Cheryl Lyon reported to me that a small white goose was coming
to Silver Lake (in Dayton, VA) with the regular flock of Canada
Geese. She thought that it was a Ross' Goose. I stopped by this
morning to check and Tom Hawkins and I agreed that it certainly
appears to be a Ross' Goose. It has a very nice, small rounded
head with a "straight" bill, no grinning patch, and a distinct bluish
color at the base of the bill. It is distinctly smaller than the
Canadas that it is hanging out with. This would be Rockingham
County's second record for this species. I would be glad to have
your opinions on this bird's ID.
